Celebrating Valentine’s Day with a Run

Feb 14, 2015 —- It was a day meant for couples and lovers, even families to celebrate the feast of Saint Valentine, the patron of love. It’s when tons of flowers and heart-shaped balloons surround almost every corner of the streets. But as cliché as it may seem, for the ACES’ community, Valentine’s Day means celebrating a different kind of love.

“Puso Mo, Para Sa Edukasyon Ko”, was the theme for ACES’ Fundraising event held at Pacific Mall, Lucena City. Students, members of the Board, the Administration and Faculty as well as outside supporters graced the First ever FunRun activity for the benefit of ACES’ scholars.

With the runners and supporters coming from different places and ages, there were three (3) different running categories made available for them to choose from: 3k, 5k, and 10k respectively. This only shows that distance and age means nothing for those who are willing to support.

As early as 4 am, even with the rain threatening to fall, members of the committee as well as supporters of the event flock at Pacific Mall for early registration. Mr. Miguel Geneblazo, ACES Faculty lead the aero-zumba warm up exercises in preparation for the running proper the attendees will endure.

With the run marshals already at their designated places to control the flow of the runners, it was time to get those legs working. It was time to RUN. Registrants of the 10k distance kicked off at approximately 6 am, followed by the 5k runners, then 3k runners respectively.

It was a bad weather indeed, but the desire of the supporters to raise funds was stronger that even as the rain managed to pour, runners pushed themselves to finish what they have started.

Afterall, “Running for something is better than running from something”.
